Good Day

Today was a good day.
There wasn’t anything spectacular about it. I didn’t get to go on my dream vacation to Greece. I didn’t win the lottery. I didn’t fall in love with a rich model who said to me, “Hey babe, why don’t you quit your job and just focus on raising our fur child…” *Sigh…*
I got up at 7:30 a.m., made it to an earlier mass, got some family time, got some time with the dog, and got to work on my yard, which really needed some TLC.
For the first time in months, I had a day where I was almost “old” Sarah. I wasn’t exhausted when I came in from a busy day. My swelling was down and I could fit into some of my old shorts. I was able to ignore the fact I was outside in long sleeves because the weather was just the right balance of warmth and cool breeze. I ran (yes, I ran, believe it) around the yard with Hazel and didn’t immediately think, “That was a HUGE mistake.” I came in after an extended round of fetch with Hazel and sat on the floor, dirt on my legs, a very sleepy pup by my side.
I forgot who “new” Sarah was for an entire afternoon. For an entire afternoon I felt normal. I forgot about the endless bills I now have. I forgot that I am allergic to the sun. I forgot that I am going on Wednesday to the lymphedema clinic and am so very nervous. I forgot my leg swells and my jeans hardly fit right now.
It was wonderful. This is truly the silver lining of this grey cloud: I have come to appreciate the small things, like raking leaves. Who appreciates that? Only crazy people like me.
As I write this, I am sinking back to reality. My leg is slowly ballooning back to the size of an elephant leg. I feel the fatigue coming on and am weirdly emotional. In a few, I will go drop a couple hundred dollars on my medical bills instead of that pet llama I have been wanting for some time.
Goodbye, good day! I love it when you visit! I look forward to our next hangout. Maybe you can bring that rich, dog-loving model with you the next time you come?? :)
